I have a warm, empathic, and collaborative approach towards helping people improve how they feel and grow as a person, and I believe therapy is an opportunity for people to make lasting improvements in their lives. Through gaining deeper understanding and addressing emotional experiences, patterns of thinking and behaviors, relationship dynamics, environmental and intersectional influences, how the past influences the present, and other insights and directions that are gained through the therapy process, you will see meaningful and lasting change. Healing the inner self, and finding self-compassion is also something that often is a focal point and transpires as part of my work with clients.
Although there are similarities in how different people experience mental health and life issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or managing stress and ADHD, my work is different with each individual client who wishes to improve their lives and how they feel about themselves, reflecting the reality of each person’s uniqueness and variety of life experiences. My approach to helping people harness their best selves is generally supportive and pragmatic. I believe people often benefit from a variety of resources, and I sometimes encourage clients to keep an open mind to resources that may help in addition to therapy.
I am a helper, a facilitator, a resource for you to help you along in your journey of positive change. Therapy entails a collaborative effort in which the therapy setting serves as the catalyst for lasting changes a person explores, experiences and makes happen, largely through the talk process and then making changes in life outside therapy. I believe the clients I work with are capable of making the changes they seek and we will work together to help you realize them.
I practice client-centered therapy foremost, while also incorporating training and practice in mindfulness-based coping, effective communication, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and my therapy style generally addresses personal development across the lifespan and the impact of the past and relationships on a person’s current functioning.
